More attic treasures.
The Lovely Son's first proper shoes, c. 1973. He didn't walk until he was 16 months old, after which he didn't stop; running after him became my get-fit regime.
I see that Start-Rite now have a 'pre-walking' range for crawling children. Me, I like the strap and button on this old-fashioned classic.
It's evident that he crawled in these ones too.

I've still got my eldest daughter's first shoes too, black patent, almost brings a tear to my eyes when I look at them. Where have all those years gone?
ReplyDeleteThese must be hung onto. Such sweet , tiny feet !!
ReplyDeleteP.S. LS doesn't read the comments on your blog , does he ?
Oh!! They're sweet!
ReplyDeleteI have all my children's first shoes too. What is it about that particular item that has such significance??
Rachel, I thought I had added you to my blog list but seems that didn't happen after all. It shall be rectified. Thank you for coming to visit me despite my neglect of you. :)
PS I just saw from your live traffic feed that Banbury was visiting you. Or is that you??? I have such fond memories of that place, which I once knew relatively well, having had a cousin who lived there.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to cry.
ReplyDeleteThat is well cute. Don't they just look so weeny when you think about the size they are now?!
ReplyDeleteI feel like such a hard-hearted mother now, having thrown away all the kids' shoes with not even a thought. I do have a pair of my son's socks in the house at the moment, but he's 23 and he left them here when he and his wife stayed last week, so I guess that's not quite the same!
ReplyDeleteI didn't keep any of my children's shoes because I was trying to be sensible, but I wish I had now.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I did keep quite a few of their milk teeth in a little covered dish. I now have no idea which teeth are whose. Daughter 2 thinks it's a bit creepy and suggests I should make a necklace of them to complete the creepiness. Now, that would just be weird...
There is a book and a film to be had out of that other blog over there if you play your cards right. Don't breathe a word - they've got an agent lined up and know all about advances and royalties, you'll have to keep your cards very close to your chest.
ReplyDeleteI still have first shoes, christening clothes, assorted knits I can't bear to part with... Both my girls wore Start Rite dolly shoes. I loved polishing them each evening!
ReplyDeleteadorable...
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
I have a little pair of shoes somewhere too - and some sweet little baby gros (spelling?). Some things refuse to be cleared out. Work papers? Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteRe Deborah's Banbury feed comment - I have fond memories too - spent a wonderful year doing an Art Foundation course there...
