Desiree the Long-Fingered

Nature doesn't give up easily.

The meter cupboard is a great place in which to store potatoes. There are handy hooks just for their hessian or paper bags to hang, quiet, cool, out of the way, in the dark.

And for the last few of last year's crop of Desiree to be forgotten about entirely.

But they don't give in and die.

Oh no, not at all.

They reach out....

And out....

And out.

I am impressed, amused and ashamed.

  1. Years ago I pulled out the washing machine and found a sprouting spud. It was much scarier than yours and the tendrils were so long they turned my stomach. There's something spooky about them.

  6. Don't be ashamed ...... I've seen similar things back at home when we were kids.... dark dry cupboards produce the best and longest fingers ever. So far I've only been able to come up with small stubby fingers after months of neglect....... but, mine are kept out in the cold well lit garage.

  9. Oops! I found the shoots slightly creepy - but perhaps that's because there have been old sci-fi films on tv this week!

  14. They look creepy to me, too . . . in every sense of the word. Huge long slithery spider legs reaching out to grasp whatever they can. Me! if I'm not careful.

  16. A bit creepy looking, a bit artistic looking but also quite a pretty colour pink? They'd have pushed the door open eventually to let you know they were there!
