Dangerous occupation
Flossie and I are packing, albeit in a desultory fashion with lots of self-distraction (cups of tea, phone calls, emails, 'net surfing) and have tackled my generously-stuffed baking cupboard. But I've stopped now, for another cup of tea and a little sulk.
A rack of heavy baking trays fell out onto my nose and cheek, and I cracked my head on the corner of the cupboard door while picking them up. I'm nursing a lump on my head and watching to see if a black eye develops. And now I notice that the brown sticky tape that holds the packing boxes together slowly unsticks itself after a few days and waves about in the most insolent manner.
I've decided that I hate packing. And there is still so much to do!
I know, packing is such a clart on (you won't here that often when you leave here!) but just think, the next time you see all that lovely stuff will be in your dream home!
ReplyDeleteI hope that a cup of tea helped. Keeping calm and carrying on is such a default position these days, is it not. Arthurxxx
ReplyDeleteOMG, Rachel, no need for disfigurement here. I don't know how you find the zen in packing, but I hope you can get there.

Ouch! You could do without that. Perhaps a stiff gin and tonic would help to chase the pain away, if not the bruise.
ReplyDeleteI never pack anything. My husband just unpacks it all and does it again, properly, if I do. Hope the baking tray injury isn't too serious.
ReplyDeleteOh, how awful for you! I hope you don't get a black eye. It's no fun packing up your life. What a bother. I hope things look up for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you didn't jolt your back when you banged your head. I have been regularly concussed on a large beam recently. This explains much.
ReplyDeleteYes, Lucille, I did. I just thought that there was enough bathos in my blog and didn't want to mention it.....
ReplyDeleteOh dear, poor you! Give a a good rub (as my granny used to say) or take a paracetamol (doctor son's usual recommendation for a cure-it-all).

I wouldn't be sulking at this stage. I'd be sitting in the corner sobbing in frustration! When even packing tape lets you down - well!!!
ReplyDeleteSwearing helps , as does the application of a cold cloth to the injury .
ReplyDeleteThe sticky tape's creeping fatigue is uncalled for , though . I hope you talked to it firmly .
And then had some comforting soup .
I don't know that I could pack and move again in my life. The last time almost killed me. You have my complete sympathy.

ReplyDeleteI knew there was a reason I don't use tape much :) As for accidents - yes! Been there done that. More often shins in my case.

My mother's cure-all was always Germolene and my father's, neat iodine - God, did that sting! He was a farmer and used it on the animals and I guess he thought if it was good enough for them then it was good enough for his kids!
ReplyDeletePoor you. You must curse prettily and have a gin.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I didn't realise moving was so dangerous!
