Catching

It's easy to blame Millie for any little offerings brought into the house, but today - for once - she was the innocent party.

She was in the sitting room with me, fast asleep in the window, when we heard a wheezy little screech from the dining room - a frog, I thought. Clearly Millie thought so too. Both of us rushed next door, to find Scooter sitting wide-eyed, on full alert, under the table. The hunter home from the hill written all over him.

No sign of a frog.

So I moved stuff around, the dining room being cluttered with the contents of the soon-to-be-utility room, and finally spotted a small leg protruding from beneath the standard lamp. A small froggy sort of a leg.

And there it was - seemingly unharmed - and very ready to hop into the plastic canister that has become my standard frog-rescuing kit.

Hop! into the pond, and all was well.

Except that Scooter really didn't think so. He took up his position beside the pond, until I chased him away. Up onto the wall, casting longing looks back at his stake-out, and glowering at me.

If any cat can look outraged, Scooter can.

One final glare at me, then up onto the linhay roof to sulk.

I know, I'm such a spoilsport. It's my job.

A pond? Yours? Have I missed something? We obviously need a garden tour!

Oh my dear! Frogs? Frogs brought into the house?
Scooter is providing cuisses de grenouille for your dinner and you're putting them back in the pond? No wonder he's miffed. And he clearly is quite put out with your ingratitude. Boy does he look mad!
And yes....a pond? There is a pond? As the veg artist says, a garden tour is most definitely in order! I knew nothing of a pond!

Sweet kitties do bad things to little critters, but it comes with the job of loving them. My two stripy boy-cats bring in dear little harvest mice unscathed. My job is to chase them all over the house and finally rescue them and return back to the field they came from. Resue operations can take a lot of time. The cats just watch in a disinterested fashion. They already did their job.

Cats can be SO scathing can't they! Glad you rescued the frog, my cat has never bothered with the fish in the pond at all, but heaven help any frog she spots. Sometimes I'm just too late :o(

What a fine looking frog, you didn't feel tempted to give him a kiss then..?!

He is indeed the very picture of an outraged cat - perhaps he thought you might like frog's legs for dinner (although I have eaten all sorts on my travels .... kangaroo, alligator etc ..... I really don't fancy frog!)
Hope the utility room work is going well!

The daily frog strikes again :) He looks very handsome for a frog and that is one very miffed looking cat!

Sprocket brought in a dead bird yesterday - a rather old, smelly dead bird that someone else had killed a long time ago. There were feathers everywhere! I think I would prefer the odd live frog.

Oh dear, Scooter really was rather cross with you wasn't he ... he ensures that you're one step away from a handsome prince and this is how you thank him, I'm not surprised he was miffed ;D

They make such a racket, don't they - no other form of defence. I'm glad he's not destined to swim in circles for ever. Poor Scooter - only trying to do his job, as he sees it.

Hmm! How long before Scooter's speaking to you again then?

I don't know how you survive those withering glares! Pretty little frog. I like to pick them up, I love the feel of their fingers and toes.

Lovely frog, I do think they are beautiful in an odd, sticky sort of way - I'm just waiting for the 'offerings' to start rolling in from our new little hunter. He's stalking the hens so far, he really needs to find something more his own size!
