ta-daaaa!
First comes some serious trimming of the outside edges of the lead. A rectangular panel is being fitted into a very wonky old window frame. Nothing in this house has symmetrical measurements. This is the Lovely Son's first contact with stained glass.
There are three trips up the ladder to try for size, and on the fourth.....
...it fits!! A lengthy and tricky struggle with a mitre and quadrant beading follows; this is worse than maths. Even the Lovely Son, who is quite handy with such things, struggles with mitred corners. The cats rush in and out; passers-by comment, ask questions and admire.
Tricia made next door's panel many years ago, and while we are working, the neighbour, now very disabled, comes out and is delighted to see what is happening.
We think it looks very nice, especially at night, when the raw new beading doesn't show.
Tomorrow the beading will be painted, Tricia will get the 11 o'clock train to London for her last week in the UK before heading home to Canberra, and her lovely new window will be FINISHED. What a souvenir for me!

All of you are to be congratulated, heartedly!
They look beautiful together - and quite grand, actually.

Thank you for your comments throughout this process - Tricia, unused to bloggers, has been thrilled by them!

i love how they look side-by-side--not identical; not matching. but they go so well together.
