Woolly vests

The dog was thrilled that someone admired her knitted jumper yesterday, and thought she might like to show the world her wardrobe. She apologises for the number of times she's had her photo taken when she's having a bad hair day.

There's the tartan thermal number, German-made, bought by kind thoughtful owner on a bitterly cold trip to Prague, during which, of course, the dog stayed home in comfort with her foster mother. Best for wet or snowy weather, as it dries quickly, but the dog complains when it's put on straight from a radiator, as those hot metal press-studs can hurt.

The others were knitted by foster-mother Sandra, whom the dog loves dearly. Given too much leeway and Sandra would knit the dog an entire layette, in pastels, but once she'd tweaked the coat pattern sufficiently, she reluctantly abandoned the notion of bootees, matinee jackets and a little balaclava.

This is the prototype coat, a pensioner's type of woolly, affectionately known as Uncle Walter's Tank Top after a friend's elderly relative. An sensible, everyday sort of affair, could go with a tweed cap and a packet of peppermint drops. Ooh, the dog could just fancy a peppermint drop....

And finally the Reversible: kept for really cold days. Warm enough to allow for much dawdling, reading the news at every corner, plodding slowly homeward, hoping it will be dinner time.

Or for extra protection from the wind when a defenceless, flinching victim dog has just been ruthlessly scalped by Denise at Posh Pups.

This is not just high fashion, it's high-spec protective gear.

Oh, sweet, sweet little dog. So nice to have a post about you and your wardrobe.
I'm so glad that you don't freeze up there in the chilly north.

Hi Rachel. Is your pup a cross between a maltese and a Yorkie? We have two of those up at the big house. The little coats are soooo cute. I Know two pooches who could use a couple of those!

She's a fabulous model and such a fine wardrobe.

The grey is the Werther's Original of dog coats ..... very reliable and room for a caramel or two .
I do like the idea of a pastel layette but maybe Tosca might prefer a bit of Barbie glitter .Meanwhile she's got more clothes than me .... bet her social life's better too .

Truly, the dog has no bad hair days! What a spiffy wardrobe of "vests." (I want to call them waistcoats instead; it sounds more dignified.)

Oh, you are a hoot. That does look like a sweet little dog.

And now I'm off to continue my marking. Our college is looking for voluntary redundancies and today I got a note of what they'd give me to go in the summer. Well, what they'd give me if they chose to let me go. Tempting... but I think not quite tempting enough...

The dog is a perfect wee model. It's clear she has human friends who love her.

I believe she has a promising career as a fashion model. I especially like the tartan thermal number.

The tartan is so chic! Perfect to brighten up a dreary winter day!

S&S have beaten me to the 'Werther's Original'comment.

Poor dog must have been lower than a lot of the snow - and I know how that feels.

She wears them all so well - quite the little model.

Benno absolutely needs a coat; do they make them in outsize?
He's been to the beauty parlour today for a shampoo and set, has lost a whole layer of smelly dog in the process.
We left all the hair there instead of nicely distributed about the house, but he will feel a little chilled round the flanks now. No cowpats available at the moment for instant re-insulation, either.

What a fantasic wardrobe! and after another dose of the white stuff, obviously much needed. I need to find a pattern for a miniature dachshund jumper as they are not blessed with much in the way of a fur coat!

I had to come back to this post and let you know that in Brooklyn a woman tied her dog up for less than a minute to buy milk in a bodega. In that time, someone stole the dog's beautiful green coat right off his back!
