Good word, isn't it, 'blogmeet'? Sounds ancient, meaningful, Old English, like 'wapentake'...
But in reality, yesterday at least, it means getting in the car, driving to a nearby pretty little market town, Morpeth of the terrible floods of 2008, and meeting up with blogger Anne of frayed at the edge, and her sister-in-law Jennifer. I was hopeful, as my previous experience of meetings with fellow bloggers had been most enjoyable.
And it was most enjoyable this time too. The sun shone, the sky was blue, we chatted over a pot of tea, then walked through the park along the river, looping back into town to have a very good pizza and more conversation. And we popped in to M & S's sale - well, of course we did.
I didn't get a parking ticket despite overstaying my time, and we parted company saying we should like to do it all again some time. I was treated to both the tea and my lunch, although, frankly, I deserved neither.
Anne had brought me a gift, a bag containing a mug and some sachets of drinking chocolate:
Isn't that little bag just lovely? Made by Anne. Made properly, too, beautifully lined and finished. Why can't I sew like that?
But to my shame, and despite best intentions, I arrived empty-handed. I had left home and was just that mile or three too far along the A1 to turn back before remembering that the box of choc/mocha cupcakes, baked for Anne last night, remained in the fridge at home. I'd been distracted by checking that I had parking money, telling the dog I wouldn't be long ((the magic phrase that settles her into her armchair) and left the house forgetting all about them. Bad forgetful blogmeeter, I am!
So I sent her a photo later on of what she should have had as a gift from me:
I'm sure she wasn't much comforted.
And then I ate some, as a severe penance for myself, you understand.
But it's a good excuse to meet up again - my treat next time, with real cake alongside too.
If you haven't tried blogmeeting, give it a go, do!

"Wapentake" ...now that's something I've not heard in a long time!
And, yes, I have met some bloggers and each time our blog-ties were tightened.
I haven't tried blogmeets yet, though I hope I shall. Other meets from online groups (which I've now left) have been rather disappointing - not enough in common I guess.
I'm glad yours went well :-)
Hands up who had to look up 'wapentake'?
*puts hand up
You all sound to have had a lovely day out - and of course I have now had to pop over to Anne's blog too...
Those cakes look scrummy - I'm not entirely sure that the photo is any compensation to Anne that you forgot to take them along...
Morpeth looks charming ... but then to we "newbies" over here in N. America all of the UK (or most of it) has that beautiful, historic, stone this and stone that appeal. I'll have a cupcake please. xo S.
The formidable lady who used to work with my mum retired with her husband to Morpeth - they are both into their 90's and still going strong. He held such an important job at the Bank of England that I grew up thinking that it was his signature on the bank notes!
Yes I blogmet Alice of sightofmorning despite my family's misgivings about mother meeting someone from off t'internet because isn't she is always cautioning them to tread on the lines so the bears don't get them in the squares. Very nice it was too. I expect I would have forgotten the cakes too. We could agree to an amnesty on the gift front if we ever met.
You are hundreds of miles from me. You will still be hundreds of miles from me when you move to Somerset. And I don't even want/can't eat (coeliac) cake!
I think your gift for Anne was remarkably thoughtful . Kind to teeth and waist . Your sacrifice in eating it just reinforces our impression of your caring nature .
( I'm just jealous , really . Too far away to meet anyone .)
It was a lovely day out - and so far all my blogmeets have gone well (you were the fourth!) I had joked with Malcolm about 'the phone call' - he would phone me and if I thought you were horrid I would say 'oh no, that's terrible, I'll come straight home'!!
ps - I only ever call him 'babes' at the end of a phone call ....
Sounds like a good day and the cupcakes look delicious. Not sure I could ever agree to a blogmeet. I'd be too worried that the real me didn't match up to the virtual me.
Oh, do arrange it for a Saturday next time!
I don't think I fancy the anty burps, by the way.
