Dnt wrry abt me

It's a futile waste of time and emotion, worrying. I know this. But it creeps up on me...

I hadn't heard from the Lovely Son for a few days. I knew he and companion had left Cambodia and were travelling in Vietnam again, but I wasn't sure exactly when he would be home.

I had been given no cause to worry whatsoever, and the LS is a seasoned traveller.

But worry is my maternal-default position. I also have the emotional residue of his car-crash-fractured-femur-month-in-Spanish-hospital incident many years ago, as well as my own trapped-high-up-in-Vancouver-hotel-fire memory to encourage me in holiday-related wild imaginings.

It drives the Lovely Son round the bend, so I am generally quiet about it. But you know, those giant black ants, the mad traffic, and heaven knows what else...

But a text arrived this afternoon, sent from a very generic-looking airport, on the first leg of a complicated (i.e. budget) route home to Heathrow. "...very sad. Should have been months, not 3 weeks..." A successful trip, then; I am promised many photos.

Maybe I can stop wor... well, maybe not just yet..... Maybe he needs to get home to his cat first.

And then ring his calm, serene, unworried old ma....

I know ! One's children must be shielded from their mothers' blind panic !! It's totally ridiculous and totally unavoidable !

When Malcolm travelled a lot for work, I just had this idea that I kept him safe by worrying (I frequently went to sleep with my fingers crossed that he would travel safely) looking back now that seems silly, but it was very serious at the time!!

When they are little you think that once they are " big boys" the worry will stop...no chance! I bet he worries about you too!!

Well, at least I could translate the title of this blog post, unlike the "Mordhair Chorizo" debacle.

One of my wanderers rang quite unexpectedly, early yesterday morning after two weeks silence. I was genuinely astonished and asked who it was! Afterwards congratulating myself on my unintentional insouciance.

Love Lucille's response! My elder daugher was in Southern India when the tsunami struck. I should have had an Oscar for my calm performance when she rang the next day to say she was ok. Mind you, she is a wise one, I suspect she was not fooled!
