Yep. That's how long it's been since I started this blog. Three years ago to the day.
It's so nice to have readers now, and people who have become friends through this strange and compelling medium.
I'm always pleased when mountainear leaves a comment; she was my first real regular commenter, and how confidence-boosting her fidelity was!
Looking back at that first post, I can see that while I haven't really done very much in the intervening years, a lot has happened, although it doesn't seem to have made much difference. I seem to have achieved horribly-easily the omni-present track suit trousers, slippers and ever-spreading bottom, though not the lying on the sofa, reading, covered in cats.... These cats aren't lap-sitters; I don't read much at the moment, although heaven knows why not, and the sofa isn't long enough to lie on comfortably anyway.
I'm a little surprised by how very domestically-rooted my blog is; I had thought freedom would entail travel, and new pursuits. I really haven't travelled much, although when I did (Australia 2008) only friends were reading, intermittently (although most don't bother now), and since then, I seem to have done little but say goodbye to old and beloved 4-legged companions and amass new ones.

The next three years will, I hope, be rather more varied, with holidays and more exciting activity that doesn't just involve housework and dog walking, and I hope that people will still feel interested enough to stop by and read my blog.
And for those of you who weren't around when I found this in my friend's Canberra garden, and to demonstrate my deep affection for you all, here's a treat (trumpet fanfare) for today's anniversary - the 2008 bagworm :
Nicer than seeing me in my blogging slippers.....
Here's to the next year of posts, comments and all our blogs!

So glad I found your blog through Marie at 66 square feet/Estorbo Loco!
I look forward to your photos and your writing.
xx
Well I am a latecomer to your blog..but I like hearing about your domestic goings on. But then I am a cat lover. I hope the next three years are everything you hope for.
3 years? I didn't even know what a blog was 3 years ago. Impressive.
I am such a homebody I find nothing odd about your life style, but I do encourage some travel. Maybe to the states?
Congratulations on your stick-with-it-ness and I am happy as hell I found you.

Congratulations! And thanks for the bagworm pics, very unlikely to see one round here...
Bagworms to you too! From a generic medium blogger & friend. Three years is a long time in a life and I'm glad you've been sharing it with us all.
Happy three year anniversary! Look how many followers you have attracted over such a short time. Your photos and your writing are delightful.
As for the bagworm, I think I would rather see you in your blogging slippers!
I have read your blog every day since I " found" you, and have enjoyed sharing your ups and downs. Hope the next 3 years brings many " ups" and no " downs" to you and the furry gang. XX
Well, Happy Third Blogging Anniversary to you! I've been following you for almost two years now. Time certainly flies when you're having fun, reading and covered with cats. Oh, wait a minute, that's a description of my life.
I've been at it 3 years too. Isn't it wonderful what you find out about yourself (the good at the bad?). I like your style!
Cheers to you for 3 years of wonderful posts. You make me laugh and sometimes shed a tear but you always make me think. And wish I were there!! Keep on keeping on!

How exciting is that bagworm - Woahhhh !!

and a tres Happy Blog Anniversary !!
I think I found you fairly early on and remember taking the time to read back and catch up on most of your earlier posts. Kevin completely stole my heart ... and I do remember one of the first comments that I left was to thank you for your amazing, tres witty writing style, I told you (as many have since) that you should be writing books and that your descriptions of life shared with cats made me love my cats even more than I already did.
We love you !!
all of you
xoxoxo les Gang
I am so glad that you started your blog.
HAPPY '3'!
Blog on, dear Rachael! (Enough of the bagworm though - I wouldn't want to find one of those in MY handbag! Yuk!)
Thank you very much for the bagworm - I trust you don't have one in a tank at home to scare us with on Wednesday! Many congrats on your 3 years. I love blogs like yours that give glimpses into other peoples' lives - I guess I'm just nosey!!
Long may you continue to regale us with tales from your Slow Lane Life. The bag worm is worse than ear worms.
Happy blogging anniversary! I thoroughly enjoy reading all about your domestic goings-on, thanks to your gift as a storyteller. Please continue to let us share in your daily adventures for a long time to come!
Congratulations! I wonder what the next blogging year will bring your way? (apart from a new stair carpet, that is!)
Recent follower and pleased to have found you via Flwr jane - love the cosy feel of your blog!
Three years of inspired and immensely readable blog entries ! Thankyou !!
(I thought for a moment that Bagworm was your latest refugee and wondered when you'd found time to knit and then felt his little sleeping bag .)
Happy Blogiversary. And...just for the record...I'd much rather see you in your track suit or a muddy dog any day...but mostly cats for me please.........than an ugly old bagworm. Ick!
Happy Anniversary! I'm not sure but I believe Don Estorbo introduced us, about a year ago. I've really enjoyed reading your blog, and you and your gang have provided me more than my fair share of laughs.
Happy anniversary!! I so enjoy reading about your daily life, and I look forward to continuing to do so - just as long as there are no more 'Scooter disappearance' posts required!
Good luck with the house sale in 2011! It would brilliant to see Flossie cavorting around in green fields, and just as enjoyable to read about your decorating!

I am so delighted to have discovered your blog just more than a year ago. You have an avid reader here in Ottawa Canada and I check in with you and your menagerie daily. Congratulations on reaching 3 years of blogging! I can go onto a variety of blogs to read about travels, etc., etc. I LOVE hearing about your life with the cats and dogs in your part of the world. Even a so-called quiet life has its dramas...Good luck with your next attept at selling the house and moving on. Joan
Well done on achieving three years, Rachel; that makes you quite the blogging Grande Dame! And thank you for your perceptive comment on the Winter of Our Disconnect book - you pinpointed the annoying aspect of its tone very well, better than I did.
Still following you Rachel and can't believe it's been three years.
Evolve by all means but don't change too much. I think we all love you just the way you are.
Congratulations and thanks for opening the door three years ago.
Happy three year blogiversary!!!
One of the things I like best about reading your blog is that you don't put on a show, act like you're the ultimate domestic goddess, or use cutesy fad phrases. You live a regular life like the rest of us, and you are kind enough to share it with your adorable critters... and kind enough to share the lot with us!
I love reading about your ups and downs, because I have mine too and it makes the whole thing feel more like a community effort. 8-)
Sometimes I wish my two kitties could "read" about your kitties and be friends across the internet the way we are!
Hugs,
M
Happy anniversary :-)
Happy Blogiversary!
Happy Anniversary! I have only been reading for a year but I wouldn't miss a post.
I was so totally charmed with the bagworm that I Googled him! The bag isn't always made of feltlike stuff, some are tiny twigs and sticks, pebbles, forest debris and caterpillar silk. Spectacular.
Many Happies from me too. Your blog is one of the three at the top of my favourites list - the rest of the ones I read are all in alphabetical order but for yours, I don't want to scroll down to "S".
What an accolade! Don't stay awake with the excitement, now.
OMG ~ that is one of the grossest bugs I have ever seen!!! ... errr.... thanks for sharing???!!!
Happy Blogaversary to you!
xo Catherine
