Mugged

Remember this from last autumn? Intrepid Millie's lengthy excursion into Jesmond Dene, a route perilously close to a thundering main road?

Today the dogs and I were just leaving the Dene underneath Armstrong Bridge to come home, when we were greeted ecstatically by a small striped cat. Perhaps she was waiting for us; she had been in the house when we set off.

She was gracious enough to return home with us.

Tosca (the dot in the distance) led the way. She always speeds up when we are homeward bound.

Millie had to stop several times to do her happy roll on the pavement. She seemed perfectly at ease so far away from home.

I'm always amazed by how little we know about our cats' lives when they're out of the house. And I try not to lose sleep over it. However, adventurous Millie is responsible for much of my grey hair.

My Wild Child.

I love the trio spread out along the pavement, each of them leading you home!!
I often used to think of putting a cat-cam on Rupert to find out where he went at night, but then I realised that I would worry even more. Sometimes, not knowing is best!

Hi Rachel,
Hope you are well. It's lovely to see your blog is still going strong, I love to read about all the animals and I love your newest 'big dog'! I'm blogging again (AlterNate Art).
Best wishes,
Nia.

One of our cats (we still have him but this was at an earlier abode), would walk with us to the end of the street when we went on evening walks. He would be sitting on the gatepost of the house on the corner waiting for us. When we came back he would jump down and lead the way home.

You have no snow. i had to come back and look again. Nope, no snow.

I would pass out if our cat joined us anywhere on our walk. The whole neighborhood lives in fear of her so it would be a quiet walk, kind of a green mile march.

I love your animals.

Oh Millie, be careful out there! I love her happy roll. She looks very happy in her body language, tail straight up.

Never a dull moment at your place is there?!

I've never seen cat roll on the pavement .... not that I could see one here, as we don't have pavements (or streetlights, or sewers!!) I got on the scales this morning in fear and trepidation - and had lost half a pound ..... bring on more baking!!

I love that cat happy roll.
MiMau does it too, often just before she dashes to a tree and halfway up it.
Pure cat ecstasy.

If only Millie could really understand your fears I'm sure she'd stop her adventuring.

Same with the grown-up kids - I'd rather not know what they're up to, either.
I'm pretty sure my cat never leaves the garden but then again, she might have a whole secret life I know nothing about.

We had a cat with a similar wanderlust and he almost needed a passport given the distances we discovered he was travelling. He's still on his last jaunt which started over a year ago. Hope he's enjoying himself!

They are a beautiful sweet bunch. Love hearing about their adventures.

So , though she'd heard the old mantra , "Let them go and they'll always come back" , Millie wasn't totally sure . She thought she'd just check up on you all to be on the safe side .

Rachel, thanks so much for your comment. I'm so sorry that your son had an accident, I must have missed reading that on the blog. It's so scary isn't it, but glad he's okay. Lovely pictures by the way, do you take them with a camera or phone?
