Wasabi peas; the snack that requires courage. I like them.
The Lovely Son introduced me to wasabi peas. First taste went something along the lines of:
1st pea: Oooh, nice. A bit horseradishy, mustardy.
2nd pea: Mmm, very nice. Interesting, hot, but not too hot.
3rd pea: Oh blimey....
4th pea: Waaaaaahhhh!!!
Wipe eyes, blow nose. Start again. Addictive stuff, wasabi.
The LS also told me of the Wasabi Pea Game. This is not for the faint-hearted, involving at least two consenting adults daft laddies (this has to be a young man's idea) and probably some pre-ingested beer as well as more beer to be going on with.
The principle is simple. See how many peas you can hold in your mouth - sucking, not chewing.
The rules are simple too. It's not a sophisticated or intellectually challenging game....
Round 1: Someone says Go! and you start with five each. Hold them in your mouth and suck all the wasabi off.
Round 2 onwards: Increase the number, and carry on till someone starts crying, or their head explodes. The winner may - with honour - have a little cry afterwards.
You might wish to practise at home first. Three would be a brave start, a mere hint at the volcanic fieriness to come.
This much would be foolhardy. Your brain would leak into your ears and your seared sinuses would never forgive you.
Double this amount and you have a great game for teenage boys.

Will suggest it to my sons!! I love wasabi peas, but strictly one at a time!xx
Definitely a game to play when you are choked with the cold - who needs Olbas/Vicks!! We like wasabi coated peanuts - and of course we would never forget to warn visitors when the snacks were passed round ......
Whoo! You're a better woman than I am. I couldn't even handle one!
My teenaged daughter, who likes to think of herself as daring in all ways, would probably like this game. As for me, I'd rather snack on jelly beans.
might have to get this game started by some crazy mates next time they want to get together!

Not tried these yet but having read your (very funny) blog - it's a must!
I took a Japanesey looking nibbly thing off a plate at a wedding and ended up spitting it out and throwing it into the bushes outside...I thought my sinuses had exploded.....was that wasabi?
My grandson (8) introduced me to Wasabi beans. Not sure I'll ever be ready for the challenge!
Wasabi nuts are nicer - hotter - more crunchy and only every third one gets stuck in the teeth, but not recommended for OAP's as the falsies can't cope with them. There is no such problem with Wasabi peas. They just break your teeth in half.
We used to play this game with Victory Vs (the old ones that actually had taste!). I seemed to be immune and always won. Don't like the look of the peas though...
Haven't tried them. But in the same vein as Rattling, we used to enjoy the "How many Acid Drops can you keep in your gob without crunching" game. (As I lived in a sweet shop, I was always the supplier of said Acid Drops).
I've often looked at these in the shops and wondered what they are. Now you've told me, I'll leave them on the shelves ...
Ugh, I think I'll give this swerve! I used to play 'chicken' with my boyfriend with spoonfuls of whole grain mustard, but I am far too old and sensible for that kind of thing now! Many thanks for the good wishes, so much appreciated ♥
I have had the things, but never handsful.
I would not want to be the young gameplayers the morning after...
I've had wasabi at a sushi bar. Hot hot hot hot.
I love wasabi peas, but I don't think I'd like to use them for self-immolation. It might put me off them for good, and I enjoy them too much to risk it.
