I was given a nice big plump amaryllis bulb at Christmas, by neighbour Suzy. The photo on the box indicated that it would be a rich red.
It sat quietly in its pot inside a dark cupboard for a while, contemplating its life choices, and after release, sprang into vigorous growth. Fat buds appeared.
Not red buds.
White amaryllis. Beautiful.
I much prefer it to red....

It is beautiful. I`m sure you were not disappointed about the colour! The white must go well with the cool colour schemes in your home.
I have one that was planted late and it is being very slow........
Lovely photos...a bit like time lapse photography and something to celebrate...even if it is the wrong colour.
I would be delighted to discover that it had decided to be white - it looks wonderfully sophisticated against your grey walls.
I prefer the white too so much more pure and bridal than the tart's knickers red ones.
That's beautiful, and in an ideal setting. They're one of my favourite flowers.

Ooooh I love Amarylis... so pretty
Just perfect. And SO much better than red.
How do you manage for everything to be so tasteful, even by accident?
A red amaryllis in December:perfect.
A white amaryllis in March: double perfection.
Love the photos.

It is strange how flowers change colour;-)
Apparently with amaryllis bulbs the paler , the better and more prized .
Besides it's so beautifully elegant !!
Oh dear - the dissenting voice - I just don't like them!! However I do think that the white flowers go much better in your house than red ones would have!
It's so pretty!
elegant shots.
love the growing process shown.
divine post.
Wow. It's beautiful.
Me too. Mine kept cut in water after it toppled and then the bulb sent up another flower.
