Hmmm......I see what you mean about humiliating! Some countries took 6 or 7 tries. Scary how little I know about where they are. Not even heard of some of them! I presume I can keep trying til I have learned them all? Not got time now as the first attempt took about 10 mins... Pathetic! An excellent way to learn though, rather than poring over maps and trying to fix in your head.

The Bible maps of my childhood got me off to a reasonable start, and I knew roughly where the 'stans' were. I have a school friend who now lives in the UAE, but was amazed how tiny some of the Gulf states are. Can't wait to watch hubby try!!
I did very well with only three wrong Western Sahara, U.A.E. and Mali probably because of my interest in current affairs and looking at maps. Certainly a good exercise in geography.
I tried to put "Western Sahara" everywhere where it isn't, until I (by chance) narrowed down my choices. It seems I am not much smarter about the geography of that part of the world than my two-centuries-ago-ancestors.
I couldnt do it on flash so printed the map off and did it in a oner...not bad....22/29. Got my stans mixed up and forgot about Chad!! I used to live in northern Nigeria, how could I forget Chad?? It's right next door!!
Very interesting! I completed it, but with a lot of trial and error. I have visited Israel, Greece and Turkey so I knew those and those surrounding them, but the "stans" really threw me. And I nearly missed Bahrain altogether! I would like to print out the map and use it for future reference.
The 'stans' are tricky, I must say. And I hadn't realized, until it started to pop up in the news a lot, just how tiny Bahrain is and exactly where it is. It's shameful, indeed, how unsure I am of this whole area. The big countries are mostly OK, but the little ones??
hmmm. didn't time it. 26 wrong answers! kept moving some countries round the general right area till they fitted. Pleased that I got so many right first go but didn't count them.
My excuse is that I did History, not Geography at school! So I passed it over to Malcolm, who did reasonably well, until he too had to guess the 'stans'. He was left with Bahrain (he didn't have his glasses on), but I spotted the tiny little dot!
I couldn't find Bahrain at all ! Got the rest right including Armenia , but am now left singing "She" , so my smugness might lead to my untimely death . Husband already looking tight-lipped ....
21 for 29 but can't quite understand why everyone seems to think this so shameful. I don't speak their languages either but i know a considerable amount about most of them, read a lot and try to understand more about all of them. It takes about two seconds to find the precise alignment of some of the smallest. What's to be embarrassed about?
I think that it is shameful that so many of us are so ignorant of that area (and I count myself in here - I was woeful) because have our troops in this area fighting on our behalf and I can't even point my finger to where they are on a map.
It is also shameful on the current affairs front. What is going on in that region of the world affects every single one of us - not only the cost of fuel which we put in our cars, but the cost of transport hiking up the cost of goods in the shops, hiking up inflation, which means interest rates will go up.......etc etc
We might not feel we can do that much individually about either of the points above, but I think that our ignorance on where (and why) this is actually going on is pretty poor form!

Chastening. Wonder though how good we would be on the counties of Ireland for example. (Irish people excluded from this bit of the question for obvious reason!) Me? Hopeless. Even worse than Middle East/N Africa.
This is going to take me a while, and I'm coming back to it. You'd think for Western Sahara I might've headed to the west of Africa first instead of chasing it around like I did!

I think I scored "could do better ...."it was interesting and I'll try it with the kids
Did anyone else have trouble with seeing Bahrain....I think I needed more than reading glasses there...so "could do better" on Eyesight too for me.
