Grumble grumble

It's grey and dull out there, rather like me.

I'm just in the mood for a good moan; I shall do it in a whiney querulous voice that is designed to grate upon the ear. Stand by.

Why am I getting so many spam comments, many in Russian or Polish?
Why does everyone suddenly seem to have weird and difficult word verification boxes on their comment forms?
Alice didn't know she had one. Do I have one?
If I do, why doesn't it screen out the Russian and Polish robots?
How do you get rid of it?
Why is new improved Blogger so horrible?
Why have so many of my Followed blogs disappeared from my list?
Where are my own Followers?
Why was Scooter dipping his paw into the pond this morning?
Why was the tiny mouse, that I rescued alive and well from under the dresser last night, found dead in the hall this morning?
Why is it so hard to re-set the electronic bathroom scales after we messed them up trying to weigh my sister's suitcase?
Why couldn't she or I do the most basic maths when trying to convert her weight plus a suitcase - in pounds - to the suitcase minus her weight - in kilos? So much for a moderately expensive education.
Why won't the mammoth pile of clean laundry transform itself from Ironing to Ironed?
Why have I put on all the weight I recently lost? Oops, I know the reason* for that one; ignore.

There's more. I shall spare you.

I think I have Februaryitis. Today, I would really, really, really like a warm sunny day to sit out in.

But instead....

* yes, a clue

Ok I'm checking to see if you have comment verification ...if I had even the vaguest working memory I wouldn't need to check...hohum ..I'm checking now

Well I can't solve a grey day, Rachel, but if you want to include word verification on your blog to stop the ruskies:

Sign into blogger & view your blog. Go to 'design' (top right),
then 'settings' (3rd tab from left),
then 'comments' (underneath, 4th from left),
then scroll down to 'show word verification' which you click too.

That should stop your spammers!

Nope no verification box the comment just wafts off into cyberspace with the comment "will appear after blog owner approval"
btw my 11 year old works better with blogger than I do...would you like to borrow her? she'd love to visit ....

I read your comment about it on Alice's blog but it wasn't active when I posted though I have noticed today that a lot of blogs that used not to have WV, now has it and it is driving me mad! It all seems to be arbitrary.

rachel said...

Done all that, can't find the WV bit that old Blogger used to have. Grumble grumble grumble....

Oh Dear,im assured it will be spring soon and all will be well with the world again. To answer the questions i can,No you dont have a verification box on your blog,I too hate the new blogger and cant find half of my followed blogs.
As for the mouse i guess it didnt run fast enough and as for scooter, maybe one of those frogs got past security.

I had to put word verification along with approval on my comments box as I was sick of spam and trolls. I don't know if this puts folks off commenting but my followers still leave them :o)
Sometimes my followers disappear all together ? Yes, new blogger is a right royal pain in the ass Rachel! Each week there seems to be a different problem with it...grumble,grumble.

Not on this blog, but there is on the cats' blog, and I've just noticed that it has become more fiendish in the last few days!

You do not have word verification but The Team does. Just thought I'd let you know!

Might I add...?

Why now I'm retired am I doing less housework than before?
Why has Cassie chosen my typing chair to sleep on?
Why does my mother have thick hair and a thin body while I have the opposite?

(I reckon it was a different mouse.)

Screaming about blogger over here....I always assume it's me not them BUT I think we all know differently.

One more month till spring, right?

Anybody can do anything for less than 30 days.

I don't know the answer to any of those questions! But I do know that commenting on blogs doesn't seem to be as simple as it once was. On this blog I am getting a separate box coming up to comment in, rather than just a box on the same page as the post! and Google thinks I am "D", not Frances as I once was. I am also struggling with a new computer ( iMac) which does nothing the same as the old mini mac did) I think I am feeling a bit like you are. Never mind, spring is on the way......I taught my grand daughter to say " drops" for the snowdrops on the lawn yesterday, and she remembered it to tell her Mum later. Bless!

My grumble for the day is that I have not been able to leave comments here on on the Dinnertime blog - maybe, since I'm grumbling, it will find it's way thru now???

Definitely February ... and it's even one day longer this year . Rats !!
Oh , and talking of which , that miniature mouse just died of fright , I expect . Had someone thought she looked a bit like a prawn ?

rachel said...

Maybe it wasn't the same mouse, but the dead one did have a certain - shall I call it chomped? - look. Poor little scrap.

I love a good moan.

Sounds like a bad case of cabin fever! If I could I'd send you some sunshine in an envelope, but it's the devil's own job to fold it......I could send you my cat who seems hell bent on driving me crazy. One more at your place would hardly make a dent? On second thoughts, if he's making me crazy he might not cure, so much as exacerbate, your gray and cloudy mood!

Lesley said...

Snap! I just posted a grumpy moan too.....so, no help, but company I can offer!

Unlike my "me too" comment, your comment on my blog DID help. Thanks - am smiling (through the red, swollen nose and puffy eyes) now!!

I feel like Eeyore too.
February is hard.
Hard hard hard.

You have no word verification thingie. They don't bother me because sometimes I like to make nonsense words out of them. But you don't have one.

jabblog said...

I've just abandoned the new blogger interface and gone back to the user-friendly one. I've also got rid of word verification/moderation and those nasty captcha things that I didn't know I had. Blogger has seen fit to use them instead of the older 'wheelchair' form.

February - pah! It's grey and dull here but too mild for a cheery fire.

Dr. Google suggests a large pot of your favourite blooms to increase blood circulation and raise general happiness. If it helps to know that you have company in computer frustration, yesterday my beloved found himself shouting out loud at his skype log-in and had to remove himself from the laptop to prevent the object of his misery being hurled through a closed window. Februaryitis must be going around.

I've not turned on the new blogger version yet, though I was thinking about it. But now I won't. I do think your therapy for the moans is a good one. Now my stomach is rumbling.

judy in ky said...

Hi Rachel, i'm sorry you feel like Eeyore tody. I have those days, too. February is full of them.

judy in ky said...

By the way, there was no word verification when I posted my comment above.

alice c said...

We think we should all sit in a circle droning incantations against Blogger and flinging WVs onto the fire. Cocktails will be served.

judy in ky said...

Why does Blogger love to torture us?

Anonymous said...

you are indeed having a moan but you are allowed. we all have something to moan about and should be able to whenever necessary. your snack looks delish. cheer up buttercup ;)

I can only help you with one of these questions.

In order to easily change pounds to kilos (or vice versa), inches to mm (or any other form of measure), just open Google and type in, for example:

36 pounds = ? kilos

or

114cm = ?in

When you hit the search button, the answer to your question will appear at the very top of the results!

Since I often read british blogs, and I live in NY, I am forever having to translate recipes, and I'm bollocks at maths.

Happy translating! 8-)
