A year on

It's almost a year since I moved to Somerset.

And how things have changed! Remember this post? When it became clear that I wasn't going to be moving to this house up the road?

Of course you do; you were very outspoken (read your comments), occasionally shockingly rude and abusive, wonderfully frank, honest and supportive, and you made me laugh a lot and cheered me up no end.

Anyway......

The house in question, the one I didn't buy, despite my best efforts and the Alleged Vendor's apathy, never was sold, but sat on the market for a year. Until my friend S, whom I met one perishing cold winter's day in Dunster Castle car park, where we got chatting and made friends as two new incomers, rented it from the AV last week, until she decides where she really wants to live.

So I now have had the opportunity to be in that house once again. I have walked round it, looked out of all the windows at the glorious views, this time with knowledge of who all the neighbours are (the lovely badger-watching people amongst them), and realised that I much MUCH prefer my present home, my quirky, awkward, characterful old cottage.

Nothing wrong with the house, and in fact its location is far preferable to that of my cottage, but I am so glad I didn't buy it.

Funny how things turn out!

I'm pretty sure that someone said that the house that comes up next would be exactly right for you. And it is, how marvellous is that? And, hasn't your life changed since you moved there?

Rachel, there is a reason for everything (or so Granny told me!).
A year already? Good things and bad things, right? Live, love and laugh, it is the only way to go!
Hugs to Flossie and be happy!

Your cottage looks even better to me when compared to the one that got away. Very glad you think so too.

I must have missed your post last year but if I hadn't, I too would have judged your Lady Vendor by her English as well as by her treatment of you. So good to know it all worked out for the best.

That's really very interesting. Like it's meant to be really. Because if you had any lingering doubts as to whether or not you bought the right house. In the end, this house suddenly appears in front of you (so to speak) which means that you can look around it again and realise that it wasn't the house for you in the first place?

I think we all don't realise what we truly want or need until fate takes our hand and leads us there?
Fascinating.

Your friend is doing something I am planning on doing in a few months time. Wish I had met both of you in a car park so I could compare notes.

I'm so happy for you that you know now that you made the right choice. I'm sorry about your very sad news about Tosca. He sounded like a lovely dog to know and love.

Ah, you'd never have got your Zimmer up all those steps at the front door.

Thank you, Rachel, for keeping Tosca's photo up. I loved the photos of the kitties cuddling. Nothing ever turns out exactly as we imagine. You and the Gardener, your house... it's all an adventure and I love following yours.

I can't believe that it's almost a year!! I'm glad that it all turned out well and that you are happy in your quirky cottage ..... and of course if you had bought the other house you might not have met the Gardener .......

There you are you see - all's well that ends better :)

I, too liked the cuddly cats and am glad that Tosca is still present even if only in a photo.

Your cottage is much prettier and more fun than that "ordinary" house! Happy anniversary of your move, and I wish you many more contented years in your lovely home.x

All meant for the right reasons, I'm convinced of that too.

Funny how these things turn out. I am glad you find you prefer your cottage. I think I would too. It looks more interesting, although the views from the other are very fine!

Outspoken? Us? Never! (You wouldn't have us any other way - would you?)
Much prefer your lovely cottage. It's the one I would have chosen!

You have brought to life the words "bloom where you are planted". So glad you've stayed!

I think you could make any house luxuriously comfortable in days ( builders "days" , anyway ! ) .
But the house you finally chose is particularly charming .
( and Isabelle's quite right about the Zimmer ... we old ladies must be practical about such things . )
