It's unbearably hot and stuffy today, and the house is like an oven. Opening windows and doors invites tabby fly-catching madness and broken plant pots.
Why did an icing-less cupcake turn up this morning on the floor next to the dresser? Where has it been?
Will Tricia ring today to tell me she has landed safely at Heathrow after the nightmare journey from Sydney? Will I be ready in time for her arrival later in the week?
Will the round courgettes ever stop multiplying? Why won't the beans do the same? I could handle a glut of beans.

Will I ever tidy my study? Why do I have to go back to work a week tomorrow? Will Gordon Brown ever stop doing that funny thing with his mouth after he speaks? Ah, so many questions, so few answers.
ahhh - the fly catching madness I know it well - Oliver emits sweet little excited chirpy mews as he flings himself around after flies, tiny moths and/or poor little spiders just making way through life.
Have you made zucchini cake, a rich moist spice cake much like carrot cake, with a cream cheese frosting - perfect to serve to guests from far away lands (and to fat tabby cats with sweet black noses).
