Don't say anything

Don't speak to me! I'm too well brought up to ignore you. I will have to answer, and then I will cough. That's mostly what I do these days: cough. In the night, first thing in the morning (horribly, with nose-blowing; be glad you aren't staying in my house), and at any time through the day if I have to speak. It's a common after-effect of a virus, apparently.

It's also very irritating - to my throat, to me and to everyone around me. Not the cats and the dog - they don't mind at all, and in fact Hamish and the dog sometimes join in. The dog has a gloomy-sounding hacking cough, like an undertaker with a cold; she has medication for it if it goes on for long enough, because, as for many Yorkies, tracheal collapse is a possibility. Hamish has a genteel, breathy little "huf! huf!" cough, which he makes with his eyes shut and his tongue protruding slightly.

Lottie coughs too, but in a productive sort of way that I'd rather not talk about.

I've tested the results of the research into chocolate as a cough suppressant, and it really does work - so long as I don't say more than a few sentences at a time - but I can't face another square of Easter present chocolate now. Or a mini-rabbit made of chocolate. Or a little chicken made of chocolate. Or a spotted egg made of chocolate. No more! My teeth have chosen life.

Cough, cough.....

Alternatives to the Chocolate cure ? How about chicken soup ? Sciroppo Creosotato ( and a time machine )? A vow of silence ?
Tea , apparently , further dries the throat , so isn't a good idea when you're hacking convulsively. Hot water and honey sounds vile but is effective .

You know what ? Chocolate begins to sound better and better !

Maybe just a little square of quality dark chocolate then?

Poor thing. When I am coughing a lot I put a couple drops of eucalyptus oil in the bath and have a long soak. It helps loosen up my chest so I can get well faster. Feel better.

Haha! Love the cartoon!

I don't know...I think chocolate is a cure for a lot of things ~ no? :)

Hope you get feeling better soon!

I fear I may be joining you in the sore throat and coughing venture! Luckily for me, I haven't felt ill as such but my throat hurts and it was hard to sleep as a result. You have my sympathies.

Semaphore flags? I'd refer you to this link

but fear it might make you cough.

Do you know who you caught this nasty virus from? Are you into revenge? Something ultra sweet that makes the eater put on 2lb for every mouthful?
I find that a new book is just the ticket to see me through a miserable day - presuming your roof has left you with enough money for a paperback!

I get these coughs all the time. Last summer one lasted 12 weeks. I had to suck cough sweets all the time in school. The Dr tried to tell me I have asthma but I knew it wasn't. He wouldn't give me anything so MrH brought antibiotics back from Moscow. Bingo, gone in a week.
I'm a big fan of Covonia. Tastes vile (and I swig it from the bottle...) so it must be good.

I've had a cough like that before and it is so irritating. Unfortunately, I never found anything that would calm it besides time. Hope yours goes away soon.

I'm so sorry about your cough. I know how aggravating it can be. Love the cartoon! I think my cats do that when we are not at home.

Oh dear. Maybe you could try a cough remedy that used to be recommended in these parts when I was a kid - rubbing your chest with fish and chip paper. If you try it, you might also want to give other people a very wide berth.
