Strangled cries

No one warned me that knitting could be stressful or strenuous.

Or involve wrestling.

No, I know this isn't knitting....

but the results were similar.

So what was I trying to knit? Something simple, a small lap rug, nice, easy, unchallenging sort of knitting that I could do when watching tv without getting my purls and plains muddled up. (You'll see that I'm already adept at lumpiness.)

My mistake was to try it on these:

They have a life of their own, I tell you!

Never again.

I couldn't agree more. Knitting is really bad for your inner peace, serenity and mental health. I gave it up years ago and have been all the happier for it. I loved the the little sketches by the way.

Shows you how much I know about knitting .... I thought these were for knitting tubes . Was wondering how practical a tubular lap-rug would be and envisaged it worn at the same time as one of those two-slippers-in-one affairs , seen in gadget catalogues ..... then read further .
Your lumpy knitting looks very professional though . Impressive !

Crochet is much easier - just one needle!!!

Wow. You're game. They look like something in medical intervention!

I would think knitting with 4 cats would be even more of a challenge then those darn circular needles. "Our" (dear, handsome, tres intelligent ...) Oliver must chase and destroy anything that looks remotely like string.

I'm sure my dentist uses something similar.........and not for knitting.

I love your definition of this as 'only simple'. That all depends on perspective, you realise!

Yes. I may knit once I'm retired. And I may not.

I can't bear circular needles...so slow. I use extra long ordinary ones, one tucked under my arm. A bit like continental knitting and so much faster (and easier on the hands) there's a sort of description here http://techknitting.blogspot.com/2007/01/circular-needles-back-and-forth-round.html

By the way, yours is not at all lumpy, sometimes it just depends on the yarn or the angle you hold the needles. When things are washed it all seems to even out!

There's a trick to sneaky circulars: give 'em a hot bath! Once the cable's relaxed, the knitter can be, too. ;)

Your knitting looks lovely, by the way. Perhaps I should run up another skein?
