Common sense prevails

Sigh.....

Postponement. We shall try to have that sisterly reunion next week.

Anne attempted to get to the station this morning, to find queues round the block, until it was announced that no one was going anywhere due to points trouble in the tunnel. A further announcement (on the radio, not the chaotic website) indicated that no one would be going anywhere from Glasgow today - one look at the news will tell us why.

It is minus 11 degrees in George Square this morning, enough to freeze anyone's points.

So, weather permitting, she will come down next week, which to my delight, will allow her to join friends and I for my birthday lunch at Matfen Hall - again, if we can reach it, out in snowy Northumberland.

George is staying with Lesley this week, and Flossie and he have bonded. George is a rather staid 3-year-old, who is just rediscovering his puppy side. It's so sweet to watch them greet each other with delight, to bounce and nudge into play, to run around like the lovely young creatures they are.

Flossie has learned that if she shares a stick, a great game will ensue.

First, get that stick from George.... He's much bigger and stronger than Flossie, so she has to work at it.

Success!

And off they go again, ears flapping, oblivious to blizzards, ice, motorway chaos, frozen points; life in snow is just delightful. And somehow, it's catching.

Will keep fingers and toes crossed for you. We seem to be just as cold here, but without the fun of the snow!

Oh what a pity! I feel so lucky living where we do, we seem to be escaping the really bad stuff - just a hoar frost last night, and *only* -5 at night. You will have to doubly make up for it when you hopefully get your meet up.

I'm hoping for you that your sister is able to get there next week to enjoy your beautiful home and all your thoughtful preparations. At least Flossie is having fun! She must keep things lively around there.

Fingers firmly crossed that she makes it mext week! It is still horrendous up here, with miles and miles of the M8 (our busiest motorway) still closed!! Lovely photos of the dogs!

I must hunt for a big stick tomorrow . Perhaps I will start frolicking too !
You really must be congratulated on being so grown-up about the postponement (I'd be all mumpy and lumpy by now) and with any luck the train service will get back to normal soon.

Lovely to see youngsters enjoying each other's company:-)
Hope your sister makes it soon but better safe than sorry (sorry, cliche-ridden here!)

Yes, well, bah, humbug. It may be delightful where you are, if you're a three-year-old dog, but here it's FREEZING!!!! - a gross understatement.

Joie de vivre? Not as such. Not from a 60 year old woman....

So sorry the weather interrupted your plans with your sister. I hope it will be more cooperative next week.

Looks like the dogs are thoroughly enjoying the snow.

If this is going to happen every year I think the government should stump up for the equipment they seem to have everywhere else that allows life to go on even when it's cold.
We pay extortionate sums of council tax and they can't even collect the bins... because they haven't cleared the roads.
Flossie has the right idea. Tosca looks very interested as well!

I am supposed to be meeting a friend from Edinburgh in Oxford on Sunday. She seems convinced that she will be able to get down to southern England . . . and I hope she's right! I was at a Xmas party last night and there was lots of talk of weather conditions in the north. Lots of people seemed to have elderly parents that were stuck in snow. The pictures of motorway traffic are just horrendous! Much better to stay close to home (if you can) and have a good snow frolic.

Have you come out of your Christmas denial-mode yet?
