View from sick bay

Flossie writes:

Thank you for caring so much about me. Rachel cried when she read your messages.

I am getting better.

I took that thing out of my leg yesterday, and the vet didn't argue.

He was very pleased with me this morning, and gave me a kiss. He says he wishes he had a lovely toned body like mine. (Lovely? Starved, skinny, rib-cagey body, more like, I thought, but I didn't say anything.)

But being pleased with me didn't stop him giving me two jabs with a needle - and one was so sore that I cried and had to have a little treat! - and sticking a thermometer in my behind. So undignified! I made him do all his vetting in the furthest corner of the consulting room.

I need to sleep a lot, because it stops me from feeling so hungry. I'm allowed a proper dinner on Christmas Day, apparently. If I survive that long on measly little bowls of chicken and rice....

But I'm not lonely.

And I go for little walks in the snow.

Rachel keeps my leash on; she says something about how if they had scavenging as an Olympic sport, I could be a medallist.

'Bye for now, you lovely kind people; I heart you all.....

Warm wet licks,

Flossie

PS Send food parcels - this convalescent home doesn't understand how to build our strength up

PPS Nice try, Florence.

I'm so glad you are getting a little better every day! And look at how snuggly and warm your bed and pretty red blanket are. And to have a kitty friend to curl up with ~ perfect! Your Christmas dinner is going to taste extra good Flossie! :)

Oh, Flossie, you crack me up. Good to hear you're on the mend. (Red is definitely your colour, by the way). If it's any consolation, there's not much in the way of good grub here at the moment. Fridge, freezer and cupboards are bursting with Christmas food which is not for eating now, apparently. Now please excuse me whilst I go and queue at the chippy and you keep up the good work.

I heart you too Flossie. Minty and Shelagh send some little licks and barks and sympathise greatly on the starvation diet...

We heart you too Flossie! So pleased that you are recovering, and that your mum will be able to share some Christmas dinner with you on the big day.
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

PS. Well done Nurse Rachel on resisting those huge, baleful eyes beggging for some non-invalid food!

Delighted to read that you're feeling better Flossie. Too bad about the scant rations but only two more big sleeps (as opposed to the numerous naps) until Christmas Day. In no time at all, you'll be full of your old vim and vigour and cavorting in the Dene. I hope I'll be over to meet you in the new year!

If it makes you feel any better, Flossie, we are having a few days of 'light eating' here as well - just to prepare us for Christmas dinner, you understand, although how anyone can be strict with you when you give such mournful looks is beyond me.
We heart you too!

Oh, little girl! Poor baby girl.
Two things to remember:
1. scavenging wild food is Not Good
2. crying at the vet's office is Good (TREAT!)

Remember to thank your furry siblings for their good care while you're feeling a little ooooky.

Sweet Flossie, you gave everyone such a scare! It's a relief to know the vet is happy with your progress. Get plenty of rest and enjoy those cuddles, that's the best medicine!

Flossie, keep on being a good girl and doing as Rachel tells you. She really does know best. It's good that you're able to go out and being on a lead means you won't tire yourself out - or find any forbidden snacks;-)

Oh Flossie you certainly know how to put on the pathos ( pic 4 ! ) Glad you are on the mend. My cat, now aged 11, was dubbed " the cat who thinks he is a labrador" by the vet when he was a kitten. Emergency op for a little cap off a bike tyre stuck in his tubes aged 9 months. That was the third time, after sicking up some foam discs from a gun the boys had, and also a shoelace another time, both times ended up having to see the vet! He got more sensible, but not sure that dogs do! X

Well Flossie, you should consider yourself lucky that's all that happened at the vet. I once had a spaniel who thought it would be fun to play with my pincushion. In case she had swallowed any of the pins, the vet fed her cotton wool sandwiches ...... I'm sure you would raher go hungry than eat those!!

That printing was so tiny I thought it said Nurse Ratched ...but saw it was Rachel when I reeeelly squinted. It's okay Flossie...she is looking out for your best interests...

Glad to hear you are on the mend...

I once had a young cat called Button.... who loved to play with a leather covered button on a 6 inch length of thick string.. she was more dog than cat. I threw it for her...she brought it back..dropped it at my feet and waited for it throwing again. One day the button was missing... and then a few days later...she seemed not very well... and then... well... really sick. Off to the vet. He took xrays... and said.. "Button has a button in her tummy". Oh, boy....

A day later...and $140 later... that was back in the 70's... I can't imagine how much today..... she was right as rain. The button went in the garbage and much larger toys were the order of the day. I'm sure she didn't swallow it on purpose... it must have fallen in when she was on her back chewing it...as she did when I gave up tossing it....... she lived to be a very old gal....

This made me cry, too! So glad things are going better for you and Flossie...how frightening (my ancient springer almost died last year of a life threatening stomach condition, so I can very much relate).

She looks so sweet in her red blankie. They're so innocent, that is the thing that breaks one's heart.

A very merry Christmas to all of you!

This is truly wonderful..But I can tell you have lost some weight, please do not let Rachel withhold any important and fattening goodies from you.
That red blanket does you good, you look amazing in spite of your tragic circumstances.
