Frozen

Today was the first class in our course: Archery for Beginners. In short:

  • Patient teachers
  • Great fun
  • Harder than it looks
  • I am the class duffer
  • An open field on a Spring evening requires many more layers of deep-winter clothing than we had thought. A brazier and a hip flask might have been good too.

I am so cold, even though I've been home for a couple of hours now, that I can bear it no longer and am going to bed with a hot water bottle. I may have frostbite....

Here's a picture of one of our group, A, shooting her first arrow. By the end of the class, she had almost hit the tiny cross that marks the dead-centre of the target.

We go back for more next week, but this time we will be prepared for that biting wind off the fields. Where's my thermal vest?

I think I would have been shivering so much that my arrows wouldn't have gone anywhere near the target!

I've been cold all day!

Will you be having lessons outside even if it's raining? (Just showing what a wimp I am!)

It's cold here too... much too cold for May. I am impressed by your daring and fortitude. Now go get warm!

Come to Greensboro! They are offering archery lessons at Lake Townsend Marina and right now, as I type, it is 8:00 pm and 74 degrees. No brazier required.

I thought it was sunny and warm there? Are other British bloggers trying to make us jealous?

By now you're sure to be warmed up and asleep. Cold? Bring a lab to bed with you!

Would you like me to put your name down at Dunster Castle for when they do reinactments?

I stood outside on a ladder , painting the sittingroom windows for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon , and could hardly move when I came back in . The wind was icy .
Perhaps you should have been using those blazing arrows so popular in Westerns .

There's archery on the Nintendo Wii Sports game. We play it indoors in the warm in front of a blazing fire.

I'm seriously impressed with your proper archery though. I had a go once and it's hard (but fun). I hope it's a bit warmer next time.

You may turn into a dangerous blogger now...armed and blogging.

Well done! My aim is so poor that I'm a hazard to anything within a radius of two yards. I never know where the Kong will land . . .

Oh, but, there is sunshine at least...and as the weeks progress... should warm up a lot.

It makes me want to get out my bow and fire a couple of arrows into the side of my garden shed or something.... I haven't shot for so long I would love to come to your class....... damn!!. So far away.

I've always fancied having a go at archery. Very impressed that you are really doing it! A hip flask and a thermal vest sound like standard archery kit to me.
