Waiting time

Sigh. Fidget. Shuffle. Sigh again. Roll eyes. Mutter. Find something useful to do. Sigh some more. It's waiting time.

For a fairly patient person, I am coming to loathe waiting; after last year's fiasco, it winds me up to an intense state of nerves, in which I become the ultimate prophet of doom.

Buying a house (and, believe me, I'm dying to show you which house!) has its own arbitrary timescales, I know, and one is at the mercy of so many other people that it calls for a long loud scream every now and again so as to avoid bursting.

My Vendor the Upsizer, in reality a very pleasant young woman, was told after her second viewing of a desirable property (on the market a while, owners desperate to move away) that...  er... there may not be water in July and August unless it rains copiously, and soon. But never fear, the owners of the property are having a test bore hole dug next month.... And then any water found will have to be tested....

In the meantime, sensible Vendor the Upsizer and her partner are looking elsewhere.

And we wait.

I'd be in a state, too. Once I finally make up my mind about something, I "want it now". Keep breathing deeply!

Heavens! That pitiful puddle is not where you wish to purchase your new home I hope? The dogs will be so sad...
It is never easy to find Shangri-la so I will send a prayer or two your way!
All the best,

I have every sympathy, Rachel! What exasperated me beyond measure when I sold a flat/bought a house was the complacancy and bland reassurances of 'all going to plan' of the solicitors who were doing the conveyancing when I just wanted to shout get on with it!!,

I still have no idea why it takes (e.g) 10 days for a search or details to come back from the land registry/mining survey/bankruptcy checks etc etc - especially in this day and age of electronic communications.

I remain convinced that in you sat down and put all the processes end to end, the whole shebang would only take a morning. So why does it take weeks and weeks?

And breathe.

get out a big fluffy pillow and scream into it so you don't scare the cats half to death...'specially poor little Hamish...... I have no patience at all....especially with people.....it would be making me totally crazy....

Well, life certainly isn't dull where you are is it?! I don't wonder that you feel as if you're at the end of your rope. But we're all behind you hanging on for dear life. So yes, by all means, Breathe. But I suggest cake too. In large amounts. Couldn't hurt.

Taxing times! Perhaps sensible Vendor the Upsizer will find her ideal home with 'no onward chain' and plenty of water and move quickly.

I guess for the people processing the paperwork it's just another job - they just don't seem to appreciate the stress that buyers/sellers are under. Once when we were moving we came back from holiday to be told airily by the solicitor that the chain had collapsed ...... I was so upset that I hardly took in the fact that he went on to say that another chain had been formed!! I shall have to give you some needle felting to do - it is a great way of dealing with stress ..... repeatedly stabbing the wool is a great way of letting off steam! (and you have something nice to show at the end, instead of a sore throat from screaming!)

I'm dying to see the new house too (we also occasionally run out of water in July and August - oh the joys of living with a borehole in a dry summer...) All will be well - eventually.

This must be so stressful for you. Fingers crossed that Sensible Vendor soon finds the house of her dreams, complete with mains water!

Just refinancing my home last summer nearly sent me to drink....and that would have been after 23 years without a drop.

So I feel your pain! Just keep blogging, we're all here to lend an ear and a virtual helping hand.

House selling and buying definitely call for instant gratification . You can try throwing enormous foot stamping tantrums ....
Or let Florence persuade you to take a pleasant stroll or two . Meanwhile you can make plans that make it vital that your planned move doesn't happen before 2012 . Usually works ! SmitoniusAndSonata

Yes..it's a terrible hurry-up-and-wait process isn't it.

Here's something to cheer you up a bit (cats never fail in their task)...

Patience is a virtue - a most overrated one IMHO. Poor Florrie looks desperate to be walking in the pleasant south-west.....

Thanks for your lovely comment on my recent post, such kindness from so many people is a refreshing change.

PS. I have a bona fide girl crush on Florence...I luuurve her (don't tell Minty or Shelagh, or Richard for that matter....)
