Retrospective 2

The next morning. It had been utterly silent outside throughout the night, and oh, the stars! Now we had to wait for the wagon; it had been delayed because of motorway closure, and wouldn't arrive until late afternoon.

Cards had been waiting for us.

Lizzie brought lovely gifts.

There was lots of space to relax - for some people, at least.

The sun shone.

The television worked (I had bought this and a good deal of bedroom and dining furniture from the vendor) but without any sitting room furniture in place, the true horror of gas and electricity meters was exposed. A job for the handy Lovely Son at some point.

And then the removals wagon arrived....

And suddenly there wasn't any space any more in which to relax. Or sit down, even for a moment.

So little furniture but so many boxes!

The men were horrified at having to leave me with the cliff-face of boxes, but that was what I preferred - I had no idea where much of it was to go, and preferred to have it all left downstairs, to unpack later.

And off they went, reversing with enormous care and skill down the narrow twisting road.

Round the corner....

And away they went. It would be tomorrow before they reached home.

The cats could be allowed out into the cottage now. They are writing their version of events on their own blog here.

Wow, what an adventure! The boxes are daunting but you'll probably be able to be much more selective about what you want to keep as you unpack than you could be when packing it all up! It's all looking lovely, hope your fur babies settle in fast! Penny x

So cute, even with meters showing and boxes everywhere. And such a pretty little back door!

That brings a whole new meaning to the song entitle "Little Boxes". Good luck with unpacking them!♥

Hello! Just catching up after a few days away, congratulations on your mega move - welcome to the temperate West Country, no more nasty East wind to cut through you (well, not often). Looks quite lovely, and amd looking forward to hearing more (it's like reading one of those 'escape to the country idyll' books, a la Kathy Fforde, but more interesting and real!)

I don't envy your that cliff face one bit. Don't wear yourself out with carrying things. The driver of that vehicle was very accomplished.

It all looks lovely but I would have been so scared letting the cats out in case they didn't come back! However, clearly they have. Excellent! Happy settling in!

Wonderful adventure, and when all the hard work of unpacking and sorting is done, the fun can begin. I wish you (all) much joy in your new home, you will have earned it. OllieV

Before I forget, what is The Britannia there in the photo?

I don't think I would have had the emotional stamina to take photos of all that Unpacking-To-Be-Done. If I had paused I would have just cried.

What a great adventure for you and the cats, lovely to read and look at the pictures. For what I can see it's a lovely house.

Oh, I forgot the dogs, they must be thrilled as well with the lovely garden.

The Great Wall of Cardboard was impressive. It looks like a daunting pile of work but I imagine you are pleased to have all of the house indecision behind you and your possessions all in one spot! Enjoy.

It looks beautiful! I am so excited for you and the animals!
I agree with you, I like to take my time deciding what goes where.

Yippee, hooray, yabba dabba doo (sorry, got carried away!) ..... so good to have you back on line (even if you did do a post last night after I was in bed!! What amazing photos of the wagon reversing - Malcolm had to pause in the middle of making risotto for dinner to have a look! Looking forward to the 'after' photos, as the boxes are emptied and chaos is banished!!

The house looks wonderful, the village great and I'm glad Hamish was compliant. I too would have been scared to let the cats out...you're brave. Unpacking is at least a little more fun than unpacking since it's somewhat like opening presents. And you won't have to do it again, right? Best wishes from across the pond.

The house is beautiful. I really like all the glass between the kitchen and the terrace. And how many steps is it to the pub?

Not far to go to play skittles, I see ;-)
