Spello

Nasty word, spello. Another of those made-up words, like typo.

Anyway.... it should be fuchsia, not fuschia like wot I've been spellin' it. Named after (but not discovered by) the gentle-faced Leonhart Fuchs. There now, you'll remember in future too, won't you?

Thank you, Isabelle, for pointing this out to me so tactfully. But I didn't believe you when you said it hadn't been driving you nuts....

I've not heard of spello. I thought, though, that typo was a contraction of typographical error. Never mind, one little error isn't going to stop me reading your words.

Oh dear. Maybe I should just shut up now..... Somerset turns one's brain to jelly. Or jello......

I still can't stand the buggers no matter how they are spello-ed. Actually fuchsia was one of the words I had to spell in my interview for a job as a journalist. That time I spelled it correctly and got the job. Yesterday I followed the house style of this blog. ;)

I'm a pretty good speller, but I hadn't noticed that one! The only fuchsia I ever knew was in a hanging pot in my neighbor's yard. I guess that kept it from spreading too much.

Life's too short to get het up over fuchsias, unless, of course, they are blocking your view, in which case you can call them anything you like!

Upon further reflection fuschia's aren't so bad to look at are they?

Sold as an annual in hanging baskets here.

Don't worry I don't have any. Nor will I get any. If you don't like em I don't either regardless of how you spell them.

It truly matters little to us if you spell correctling the name of a plant! Please continue to share the antics of your little family and post photos of the many sites you are discovering around your new abode!
MacIntosh, Maira, the Fly Boy and I would truly miss your posts! (so shoo spelling bee or is that spello bee?)
Blessings,

I can never remember how to spell it - so I just spelled it the same way as you! The other one I can never remember is buddleiia (I used it in tonught's post, and I should have checked it, but I'm much to lazy!! As for typo - I think that's when you hit the wrong key, rather than make a spello (love the word!!)

Anyway, I like fuchsias. Didn't realise that this was such a minority characteristic!

I think I like all flowers except orange ones. And in those cases, it's not the flowers I don't like, but the colour.

I like them too, although I have probably been spelling them the wrong way for years! Ah well, language is always evolving.....

I Wickied it and there is a close up, you are right it's gross. I love bright colors, so it must be it's pendulous nature, that does not translate well to flowers. No matter, you can rip it out and even if you don't you are the luckiest woman on Earth to be right where you are!

That's why the Spanish pronounce it fooksia . Begonia is pronounced be-gone-ya , which is apt since I really don't like them . Weird colours and fleshy ... and not in a good way .
Anyway , I digress . It's going to be marvellous to fill the garden with everything you love and see it all settle in against those beautiful stone walls . Sigh ...

Oh dear! I like begonias too. Am beginning to think that I have very low tastes....

Dude... with a last name like Fuchs, how did he ever survive grammar school? YIKES.

@Marcheline: Well, since Fuchs means 'fox' in German, he probably was okay. :)

OTOH, a Dutch family show from the mid-sixties featured a song called "Stekkie van de fuchsia". The refrain went 'fuch, fuch, fuchsia' (NOT pronounced 'fewsha') and was put in there by the writer as a stab to the broadcasting company, which had refused to play a song of hers that had the word 'pregnant' in it. The fuchsia passed by the censors unnoticed, probably because the f-word wasn't widely known and used in the Netherlands at the time!

I love fuchsias by the way, but I can see your point if they are taking over the garden.
