Old hat

My Tante Mimi once had a hat of which she was particularly fond. It had been worn for a son's wedding, and to her sorrow, she never had the occasion to wear it again.

But it was too lovely to neglect, so she wore it on Wednesdays, while she cleaned her bedroom.

In a fit of blind optimism a couple of weeks ago, I bought myself a sun hat.

Paper braid, it may remain brand new and unworn for some time.

Today, although the water butt is full to overflowing, the sun shines intermittently.

The plants I brought from Newcastle have survived, and are responding well to warmer rain.

But it's too chilly for that hat.

Perhaps this Wednesday I could clean my bedroom.....

Or you could come and clean mine - I don't have any energy for it, the rain has sapped it all.

I love that hat! My gran used to like wearing a beret indoors.

I love the idea of wearing a hat on Wednesdays, as a kind of tradition, whether cleaning a bedroom or not! Perhaps we should organise a 'wear a hat to Blog in day' and help the idea to spread... LOL

Well you know the old rule.....you must always wear a hat when cleaning bedrooms!!!!!!!!

It's a lovely hat. It would get plenty of use here in Swampeast Missouri. We've had no shortage of sun but not enough rain to keep the pastures alive. Enjoy! A hat like that would make cleaning less of a chore and more of an event.

Glad to read the Newcastle plants are thriving.

I love hats, and would gladly wear one to do the housework (Friday for me, not Wednesday) ...... but Malcolm would think that I had finally and completely lost the plot!!

Nice hat! I have a hat I bought in Hawaii and I wear it when I miss being there.

I Think you should get a sou'wester - sod's law will have it that fine weather will ensue in the same way that imposing a drought order ensured torrential rain.

Worth a go if you feel public spirited.

Very glad about the plants as it's nice to have some continuity. How's the garden coming along?

You are a wag, warmer rain indeed. What a wonderful colour that poppy is. And I love the hat, sun or not.o

Yes,I know, you're smiling hugely on the inside.

So you're the one responsible for all the awful weather people keep tweeting about.

My most used hat seems to be a rain hat!

It`s good that your Newcastle plants are making themselves at home in the South West. Nice to have reminders of your old garden and home.

I hope you get the chance to wear that sun hat for its true purpose and that the sun comes out again soon!

That hat spells romance. You look quite fetching in it...and it's a fine chapeau all 'round. It will protect you in the garden, not just cleaning the house!

I love the idea of your tante catching glimpses of herself in the wardrobe and dressing-table mirrors as she whisked about with her duster !

Your posts always make me smile! This one is darling as is your hat. :)

It's been sunny up here. No doubt the rain will as usual wait till my paeonies are blooming and will then ruin them. (I like to be optimistic.)

I have been known to wear a hat around the house - but a woolly one in winter as I sit at my desk too mean to turn the heating on.

Sorry, that's a bit sad - unlike Tante Mimi who sounds like fine character.

Maybe I should start wearing a wedding hat instead - or would that mean that I would look (even more) eccentric when I nip to the shops? Already I have been known to be in Aldi or little Waitrose mid evening, still with my pinny on having run out of a vital baking ingredient.

Yeh, here too.....I'm baking and cleaning and...packing more boxes ......

I am with your Tante Mimi. Hats for every occasion I say, even doing the housework, though sometimes a turban makes a good substitute.

I have a sun hat too! But the brim is enormous and floppy, to cover my white shoulders as well as my billboard forehead. Haven't brought it out yet this season, but I do love it! Will probably wear it to the Scottish Highland games this year, as long as the hurricanes hold off. (Missed the games last year because of the dang hurricane.)

Love that poppy. But don't do anything rash like cleaning.

I got a chuckle reading about how to get value from a hat. I hope the sun shines shortly and you get to sport your beautiful hat.

I found your blog, through a mutual friend and immediately signed up to follow. Looking forward to your visit
