Tricia (above, giving instructions as befits someone with a degree in photography) is staying till early December. She let me use her beautiful Canon DSLR whenever I wanted, and I caught the bug. I didn't want one of my own, because it weighed a ton, but I loved borrowing hers. With its zoom lens. Mmmmm, zoom lens......
Then she spotted the ad for the bargain bundle* (offer almost at an end), compared weights (hers was more than two-thirds heavier), and positively encouraged me to think about/drive to the nearest town and stockist/play with the display model/talk to the Canon area rep who just walked in as we were drooling inspecting it with a cool eye/persuade myself that this was just the camera I wanted. With its zoom lens. Mmmmm, zoom lens......
(* Later: details here for those of you who asked)
So I did. Obedient unto death, me.
All this:
added up to this:
It's all Tricia's fault. Now she can have the dubious privilege of teaching me how to use it properly.
Mmmmm.....
...zoom lens.....

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll be very happy together, and take lots and lots of pictures and post them on your blog.
Ooooohh. Jealous. Think of it as a Christmas present to yourself, though, and as improving the service to your loyal readership.
To Tricia - please encourage more photos of lovely Tosca (I have a soft spot for her), and the inside of the cottage, even if there are still corners that Rachel would prefer we didn't see!!! And the garden in winter. And the pond. And.... And..... And ..... .
Heee-heee-heee - we'll expect many more close up shots of faraway scenes, then, won't we?
Crumbs!
Rachel joins the paparazzi.
Wow, lucky you to have a professional to train you in the ways of the zoom zoom zoom.
You're very lucky. looking forward to seeing more, close up and personal.

Or rather 'paparazzo'.
Oh what fun, a new piece of equipment and a professional tutor. Enjoy it all. Close-ups of Lottie please?
Oh phwoar Canon EOS DSLR!!! I finally got my hands on (a really ancient) one for my last birthday. I haven't got lenses like that though. Jealous. Much. Mmmmm, zoom lens. Could Tricia give us all some tips via your blog please?
excellent !! good for you. This is the camera I too may be getting as my poor, adored Olympus C5050 is finally dying (10+ years) a slow & painful death. I must have super macro - it's my favourite. xo les Gang
Please send Tricia and her tutoring skills here soonest. I have a similar model and am terrified by how complicated it seems. It also weighs an absolute ton and is really too hefty to carry round my neck for too long.
Am looking forward to seeing the smallest nooks and crannies in minute detail.
oooooh! sorry, can't type much. drooling.
Thank you for doing a post on my dreams of Christmas (way, way in the future, no doubt).
Wow Rachel, you're going to have fun! It's NOT a luxury, but a neccesity for blogging ;o)

Yes, size really does matter ......
It would appear we can expect some great pictures in the future...albeit you already have the best of subjects and we love to see their latest antics!
I should feel content with my Nixon 10 Mega 3.6X zoom and 3 inch LCD (no laughing allowed Tricia). Santa would never be that generous and I must admit to being to a large extent, clumsy with the merest of electronics! One button is all I can manage!
Looking forward however to the results of this partnership Rachel!
Hugs to all,
Blimey!
Oh, bother! Probably shouldn't be reading this, but...
Rachel, would you please tell me(us) what your toy weighs? Or post a readable pic of its box-with-the-stats.
It does look lovely...
Ok, for Dinahmow and anyone else who wanted more info: I've inserted a link in the post to the ad that persuaded me to consider this camera.
Wow that looks a big zoom. Hope you have lots of fun with it.
Oooh, it looks a bit intimidating to me! I admire your courage.
ok my tongue is dragging on the floor! I merely borrow decent cameras and make do with a very old digital. I do miss my zoom but can't afford a new one yet.

You mean your photos are going to be better than the ones I take on my camera phone? Oh well.
You will LOVE it!! Love it I tell's ya!!
Well done for tkaing the plunge.

You have made a very good choice. Enjoy:-)
I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with your new Canon.
I took delivery of one today from A***on for my daughter's xmas present. (She doesn't know I've got it, but it will help her to take some fabulous photos for her GCSE Photography). I might have stretched to the amazing deal you found - mine only came with one lens.
Good luck with yours - can't wait to see photos even more stunning than your usual ones!
