Some think it is, despite the absence of much plant growth.
Here they are, lurking in corners, biding their time, waiting for fresh green shoots.
I'm going to collect them all up and carry them to the green by the church. They'll like it there too (maniacal laughter).

Now, now, get a grip. All that dust and the paint and varnish fumes might just be having some effect on you!
Apparently deported snails and slugs can find their way home quite efficiently . Which does make for a lovely vision of a line of returning snails making its way up your road quite soon . Do snails do the conga ?
I don't mind snails. There's nothing very precious in the garden and the thrushes really love eating them!!
I mind them quite a lot - I have about 3 feet of garden out the front, with about 20 snails per square inch, it seems!
I collected up some deeply hibernating ones and laid them out on a paving stone when I saw that we had a rare thrush in the garden. They never knew what hit them.

Oh, I mind them quite a lot too. I have thousands but was kidding myself that perhaps the cold weather might have killed them off. But your post somewhat throws doubt on this fine idea.
I read once that slugs and snails have some radar thing that means that if you remove one from your garden, another realises that there's a nice bit of unoccupied territory and moves in. That's - another ONE if you're lucky. Several could converge at the same time. But you probably don't want to know that.
I'd definitely go with the move to the green by the church and the snails only need to know they're going on their holidays. You couldn't eat them. Could you?
I read somewhere that snails will multiply till they reach the limit that their territory will accept. If you clear them out, the remaining ones will breed until their original colony numbers are regained. Sigh....
And no, I couldn't eat them, but the Lovely Son would, if he didn't have to do the horrible cleansing process first. Easier to give them to the thrushes on the green by the church. The thrushes that I didn't mention first time round......
