Delicate negotiations

Flossie likes the cats, and often tries to get them to play.

Once she learns that they don't appreciate being offered her heavy rubber toys and rather revolting old bones, she'll get on better.

Scooter seems to like dogs. I predicted that he would be the first cat to crack and befriend Flossie. He was already attached to Tosca, sometimes knocking her off balance  in greeting her with his enthusiastic head-butting. He's a sturdy chap, Scooter.

He's been rather more careful with Flossie - understandable, given her size. But delicate, fleeting nose-touching is now frequent.

It's hard to capture on camera; there's rather too much of this, the just-missed shot:

but occasionally, there's this:

and I feel ridiculously pleased.

I'd feel even better if Scooter would - just once! - greet me with delight. But I know my place; the lowly provider of food. No nose-touching for the likes of me.... Perhaps my nose is just too dry.

Try dribbling . That might be all it takes .
Your human friends might not drop round quite so often , though .

Or do I mean drooling ?

Perhaps it's simply the height at which you keep your nose that's the dissuasive element? Have you tried walking on all fours to make it more accessible?

Perhaps you need to get down on all fours for Scooter - but then Flossie would be so delighted she'd knock you over.
It's lovely to see that the gang is jelling or rather that Flossie is being accepted and welcomed.

Years ago I knew someone who said that he was glad he had a dog, as it least it was pleased to see him when he got home (he and his wife split up soon after that remark!!) I guess cats just don't show affection the way dogs do!!

I love the blurred shot of them turning away from each other, as if they'd been caught and are hurriedly pretending they hadn't been 'kissing.'

Aw.

Moby noses our faces now, but it took him years.

Isn't it wonderful to see friendships being formed?! Beansie will only head-butt/face-rub Ronnie. My role is strictly limited to making the cat-dancer move and scritches (I have the good fingernails). It took almost 2 years, and some treat training, to get Lola's loving attention.

It's lovely to see them getting on.

It's lovely when a cat and a dog get on well, they always look so cute when they curl up together. Have you seen the blog We three ginger cat tale? they all get on well with a dog.

I don't get along here nearly as often as I would like. Firstly, I have a lot of 'getting on' moments at Planet Penny. Henry the cat nearly likes Higgins, sometimes. We have the fleeting kisses, and then before you can say, Aaah! Henry turns into the Mitchell Brothers - both of them - and herds Higgins into a corner. It still doesn't stop Higgins from doing 'bottom hoovering' as Henry passes by.
The email from the person who presumed to know how you treat Tosca brought tears to my eyes, how can anyone presume? and then getting it so wrong. And I'm sorry the moving dream is on hold, I'm sure it will happen, but you are so wise to move on, to get on with life as it is now. Thanks for all the fun you pass on, love Penny x

My dogs and cats always got along, much better than my cats get along with each other. Glad Flossie is being accepted by all.

Your animals' personalities come through so appealingly in your photos. Scooter looks like a lively little boy!

Ohhhhh. I'm loving it!

If I get down on the floor I'm allowed a head butt or two from our terror cat.

Try that!
