Richie and son have arrived to start work on the attic bathroom. Installing the soil pipe is the first task.
The new apprentice is ready for anything.
The radio is on, loudly. From anywhere in the house I can hear adverts, traffic updates, music by bands I have never heard of.
Tea and biscuits are ferried up the stairs at regular intervals. Nothing is a problem; everyone is cheerful. Millie is Chief Inspector of Works.
The attic has been cleared, and the insulation in the eaves thoroughly disrupted. Cats will disperse the itchy fibres all over the house for the next few days.
The old familiar mantra is being intoned gently, under my breath:
"It will all be worth it when it's finished...."

Yes, it will be, although the process seems never ending. Glad to see that the work is being so closely supervised - is Millie the only one of the cats who ventures out?
Of course it will be worth it - but that doesn't make it any easier to cope with - I can put up with the endless cups of tea, it's the awful radio stations that grate! No more snow - but very cold. We heard on Radio Two traffic this morning that traffic was queued from Morpeth back to Newcastle .....
How exciting - HandyCat wishes he could be there but of course he's in the midst of building a floor to ceiling, runs the length of one entire wall, fabulous new entertainment centre. Today door on rails and crown moulding. xo Oliver
It certainly will be worth it when it's finished. Looking forward to seeing the results!
If you buy some very small spanners and the like, could Millie do some useful jobs on her own now? She's spent enough time watching jobs being done!
how well I know the "mantra"....I've intoned it in various melodic and not so melodic voices myself. Waaaay too many times
And... this summer...we may yet again be doing more renovations around this house.... arrrgghhhh... but, we do have several things that need doing and must be done now. Sigh.... this will be the last big push to get it all complete. Sadly...we will have to hire out this time too.... Greg's knee is shot...and my back, knee, ribs..oh, gee what else? Well, I'm just too damn old and feeble I guess. Can't hold up my end of a 12 foot sheet of drywall anymore.....I give up!
Of course it will be worth it,look forward to seeing the progress.
Good - rather you than me, but good.
It's always a pain when the work is being done. Just keep thinking about how wonderful it will be when completed.
Hope you are feeling better.
Thank God The Cat is helping oversee the job!
Heaven knows what untoward thing might happen without her there to observe and advise.
Just think !Everyone will give you luxurious lotions and bubbles this year and you can spend dreary January and February in a sweet smelling warm cloud , admiring the beautiful new bathroom .
Meanwhile drown out local radio with opera (Wagner is effective) and let Millie take over the provision of hourly tea and biscuits for her workmates
Hopefully not fiberglass insulation.... yikes! Kitties lick themselves, and if they're walking around in insulation particles... take care!
