What I did on my (Bank) Holiday

This. Sitting on a low chair, shredding the personal, sorting the non-personal for recycling, marvelling at my house's capacity for secretly storing tons of unwanted papers.

There's no way you can shred without mess.

And, out of sight, or perhaps even not yet discovered, still so much more to be shredded!

It breeds, you know, all that paper. It multiplies in the night, in the forgotten bags and boxes, in the drawers and cupboards, in the filing basket that you would swear you emptied six months ago, but find that it holds stuff dated 2002..... Payslips, fuel bills, mortgage agreements, vet bills from little cats long gone.

And of course, I haven't found what I was really looking for, the one document that, if found as soon as I started looking, could have saved me from this shredding madness. Now I must go on to the bitter end.

There's no one willing to help.

I find shredding to be tremendously satisfying. I refer to it as one of my top three hobbies. And, ah, if you ever want to send Lottie on a vacation, I'm available. I absolutely love that wide-eyed picture of her.

My husband runs a business from home. Paperless society? Huh!

That's funny. Came home from the shops and said to the Husband, 'What are all those white bits all over the floor?' He'd had a similar day to you ...

I have an attic full of old papers that need to be disposed of. Shredding is time consuming - I'm considering burning instead.

What is worrying is the way the shredder starts to smoke. And of course we can't recycle shredded paper so it has to go on the compost heap and blows about on the way down there. Its a perilous undertaking.

I'm on my second shredder - I wear them out! What a sense of power it gives me.... I know, I need to get out more.

I find it a very satisfying pastime. Having said that though, there has been a pile waiting to be shredded here for at least a month. I even bought a new shredder to handle it at least 2 months ago and it's still in the box. One of these days...

OMG. Everyone shreds their personal stuff except me.....it's like a secret handshake that I don't understand the meaning of.... Do I need to buy one?

Well, I live in an area where the dustbins are rifled through on a very regular basis in the small hours, and any likely looking documents removed - usually from student houses. I'd say a shredder is essential, but as I'm now on my third, I'd advise getting a decent quality one with a large capacity bin to save yourself from emptying it every two minutes!

I have two shredders. Sporran excels at confetti-making, while Geiger prefers to concentrate on adding fringes and tassles to uplostery.

Shredding is something that I like to do because I make the shreds into a weaving project! Big help!

We use to shred and then wonder what to do with the bits, then we moved out in the county and we just burn it all and let the rain take care of the ashes.

This is why we bought a garden incinerator. It's also good for getting rid of tree cuttings when they've dried out. I get annoyed as I've registered for on-line bills, but still get a paper copy. What a waste.
