Oh deer
On a misty, moisty morning
When cloudy was the weather....
Tricia and I went out early today - faithful hound in tow - to see if there were any deer about. Deer (and in particular, stags) are Tricia's current obsession, which means, of course, that they remain elusive, invisible even. They will appear the moment I take her to the station on Monday.
The mist rolled in and out, but mostly in. All was quiet, still, beautiful.
As we neared home, a robin sang to us close by, unafraid.
A blue tit joined in behind him, chittering loudly. Such volume from such little birds!
And a crow rasped from the chimney pot.
No deer today, but a lovely walk for all that.
Home for breakfast.
And a mid-morning snooze.

Beautiful! When you're in good company the weather is immaterial, though I do love misty mornings. Yesterday's mist burnt off to a lovely day - not so today.
I lived in Taunton fifteen years ago and we would often be on the Quantocks before 6am and many times saw herds of deer - a wonderful sight in the morning mist. Other times of the year we would hear rutting deer in the hills but kept our distance from them!
I love your blog - you make life in Somerset sound so much more fun that when I lived there!

Misty moisty morning meanders are lovely, as are your photos!
Well now Rachel, your friend would not have to go far on this island to see deer...they are pushing their nose against the window as I write...Apparently I am late with treats...never mind I fed the Stellars, chickadees to name just a few, and their myriad of relatives!
Was it your roof I noticed on one photo? Oooooohhhhh!!
Hugs to Flossie!
Good old Steeleye Span! "I met with an old man cloth-ed all in leather"
I couldn't find Maddy Prior singing it.

It's ridiculously misty. I can't even see the hills!
Even here has been misty for the last two mornings, today didn't get bright at all.
Pretty pictures.
Lovely photos :0)
Lovely, atmospheric pictures. Be careful of Tricia with the deer though. My dog, Naughty George, got attacked by one during the mating season!
Love the misty moistness. Shame about the absence of deer, though. If you get desperate, Floss could probably do a great impression with Boo's Rudolf antlers. I bet Tricia would never spot the difference in all that misty moistness.

My mother-in-law lived near a park where deer were often spotted. One day when we were visiting along with my four year old nephew Nick, she told us that a big buck had been seen out there. We got in the car and drove to the park to look for the big buck. As we were driving, Nick said, "Grandma, I still don't see a big bucket".
This blog post makes me literally ache to be back in that most wonderful of places. And oh I do hope that Tricia sees a stag!
Lovely, lovely.
