High days and holidays....

There'll be none of those for me this year. A roof devours money like nothing else, except dentistry.

But it's done, and I can wander across the road any time I like and gaze up admiringly at all the new lead, instead of going on holiday. Or going anywhere, really.

You're going to look a bit silly sitting in your deckchair on the pavement, sunglasses and hat on, looking up at your roof, pretending you're on holiday. Do you get many icecream vans down your road?

But the ploy's worked ... I can do a week's B&B this summer (old churches, nice gardens, thatched cottages, good pubs, cat on bed) - just let me know dates.

I've never been much a of a one for holidays...but high days? I can get high on the smell of the sea, (when I open my front door and the wind is in the right direction!) or the freshly cut grass aroma when the machines are roaring around in the square outside...'high-ness'is relative...

Do you have a special 'holiday' cake? Time to make it. Time to eat it. Because "You're worth it!"

Yeah - I'm doing the dentistry thing at the mo so can attest to the devouring nature of that!

Glad you're getting your roof done. Sorry that it will empty the coffers and stop jaunts away. Boooo!

The benefits of a sound roof will last a lot longer than the holiday would! :o)

I fully understand about the dentistry thing, with two appointments next week. At least you can watch from across the street... I have to sit in that chair.

The surprising demise of household appliances , putty and leading often coincides with tentative plans to conduct a field trip to see the croissant , olive or Sacher Torte in its native habitat .

I'd much rather have a solid new roof than a holiday....because I just love being home.... holidays are never all they're cracked up to be.

Sitting on the patio...birds chirping and playing in the birdie bath... the new baby robins hopping around.... ... glass of wine in hand.... stitching on a bear bit.... heaven to me. Forget traipsing around, .. wrestling with luggage or waiting for lost luggage while dipping panties in a hotel sink or trying to find shops open on a Sunday...etc.... yeh... home is best. Where I know my way around the kitchen...the bed is not lumpy... the smells are great.... ahhhhh.... bread baking.... perfect.....

Yes, I have to admit that while I like to travel, single-destination holidays aren't so interesting, and I always have a sharp pang of homesickness now and then. But home is definitely best of all.....

I'll give you an interesting person discount on the holiday cottage if you like? I can do that, as I'm the boss! A fixed roof is very necessary but with the best will in the world it is not exciting. x

Oops, Ouch, and words to that effect.
Workmen and their tools cost money.
never mind the holiday, you'll be all cosy and dry indoors. And if there's a summer, there's always the garden. Or the park.
No, not good, is it? thought not.

Ooh, that picture makes me go a bit wobbly. Remind me not to change careers to being a roofer.

Ah yes, a roof is for life, not just for rainy days.

Oh goodness yes, a roof is a great big money gobbler, you admire away, get your absolute money's worth.
