A moving account 3

Before

When everything is quite impossible, with too many things left to do and not enough time or bubblewrap left, and a nasty little fear is gnawing at your vitals that a flying freehold spanner has just been jammed in the works, what you need is:

a) your cheerful hairdresser coming round first thing to sort out your grey roots and   unmanageable hair while making you laugh;

b) lovely friends coming a long way to visit (arriving too early - my hair was still being dried, but no matter) and - oh heaven! - bringing lunch with them. Anne has posted pictures on her blog; we interrupted our double helpings of lemon meringue pie to take poor Tosca - by tumbril - to the hated grooming parlour;

After

c) several calls from estate agents and solicitors to say, in varying tones of over-optimism and over-doom-ladenness (as per the nature of their jobs), that the flying freehold will be sorted but that my move on Monday is not being jeopardised;

d) a slow walk through the Dene, under dripping trees, breathing the lovely damp, woody scents after so much rain, not caring about my carefully-dried hair turning back into kinks;

e) and returning home to find the loveliest email from my vendor, assuring me that all will be well, all will be sorted out (by her), and adding "Don't worry about the flying wotsit - who cares, eh - it will get sorted one way or the other".

The only thing that could have made things even better was to find that the packing elves had been in while I was out walking, and had finished the awful, tedious, soul-destroying task of gathering together all those little fiddly things that are impossible to pack logically. But the slackers hadn't called, and now I must do it myself.

Soon, we can all relax.

6 days to go......

The furries are all looking a little lost, I bet you are too.
When my daughter moved earlier this year she put all those soul destroying little things together, now when she has a spare half hour she dives in again and 'sorts' and homes a bit more.
Take the time for a quiet cuppa and a sit down for half an hour ;O)
Best wishes

Keep going, you're getting there - with the help of some amazing friends and an extremely tasty lunch it would seem...!

Good luck - it will all be fine - esp with such an accommodating vendor. Cute dogs! M x

Glad you've had a better day, although I've never heard of someone having a pre-moving hair-do before! They will have hairdressers (and doggie ones) down south, you know.
House and garden plans are always vague - five sets of people are responsible for our garden hedges/walls, including ourselves. Oh, and if oil or any valuable minerals are ever found in the bottom part of the garden, then the rights belong to the people who sold part of their garden to the owners of this house (at least 25yrs ago and several owners on, from what we can make out) in perpetuity. My solicitor enjoys these little quirks - it livens up his small-town-practice!

Not long to go now!

I'm sure everything will work out well for you.

Good news. And I would totally be getting my hair done even hours before the move.

Cause that's the kind of women we are!

Carry on.

"Flying wotsit." I like your vendor, a sensible vendor for you, for a change. Much ado about Flying Wotsit.

I think in the new dance you have suggested on my kitchen demolition blog that this is the point where I say "It will all be fine". In exchange, while I brush the plaster dust from my eyebrows (and that is quite something as my eyebrows are not luxuriant), you will tell me "It will all be worthwhile". Swap!
And it will all be fine. x

I like the sound of the flying wotsit. It seems to have been given the name it deserves - hope the glitch gets worked on quickly and efficiently to enable you to enjoy this exciting move. Mine was with frazzzled hair and broken fingernails - yours sounds much more organized and civilized. I've been in awe of your capability and level-headed determination Rachel. Well done you!

That sounds encouraging.

Re your comment - Son is two-thirds of the way through working 12 hours a day for 12 days running, so I wasn't *really* apologising for his unshaven face - and he did shave a couple of hours afterwards. I am faintly worried that patients might not like a slightly hairy doctor - but he has such a lovely manner that I hope they don't mind...

Ooh, Blogger's not recognising me again. Anyway, it's Isabelle.

There are always things which resist categorisation in the house- moving scheme of things. As your first commenter suggests save them for a sort out later on. Would that everything was a nice even square shape and didn't need layers of bubble wrap....eeek! I've just remembered how much I grew to loathe sticky parcel tape.

Your vendor sounds so wonderfully sensible. All will be fine. Less than a week to go! It will fly by. Good luck.

So have you stopped worrying about it? It will be sorted and it will be fine. You'll be in there in no time at all and can then relax totally before you start placing things.

You're sensible to have your hair done this week .Things are much easier if one's not feeling whispy. Once Tosca's got over the sudden chill , she'll agree .
You'll both sail through with panache ... and not a hair out of place .

You always manage to sound so 'in control' - congratulations:-) Staying positive is difficult but you're doing a grand job!

I lost my comment - no great loss there, then.

However, I do hope you're not contemplating the great trek from North to (South) West without support (human, that is) The knots in your stomach will release once you're in your new home:-) Butter on paws and lots of treats - just for the humans - work wonders, I hear!
